EXPERIMENTAL REPORT.

(a) Frame warp along its longitudinal axis - as -

OR

(b) Frame distortion from square to rhomboid form - as -

If the frame distorts as in (a) there will be some point or points either at the crest or trough of the curved distortion where no horizontal movement will be recorded.

Tests show however that the amount of horizontal movement is practically constant throughout the length of frame under consideration.

We should therefore incline to the belief that the whole frame member moved backwards and forwards relatively to the centre line of the chassis.

When one wheel is on the bump the pointer moves up and back when between the engine foot and the 2nd. cross member and down and back between the 2nd. and 3rd. cross member.

Immediately under the centre line of the 2nd. cross member there is no vertical movement, the horizontal movement registered being .300"
