X 7690 15.5.25. X.8781dr. PRODUCTION INSPECTION, ADJUSTMENT & TEST OF R.R. EAC. IGNITION DISTRIBUTOR & CONTACT BREAKER. X.7690. Inspection shall be made that the contact points are exactly opposite, with contact surfaces parallel; that the cam runs perfectly true and that the contact breaker lever moves freely on its pivot, which pivot should be greased. Ascertain that the contact lever spring is free from cracks. The contact lever should be pushed back against the spring as far as possible once or twice without showing any signs of distress. Ascertain also that the condenser connecting strip is clear of the condenser case. Ascertain that the various pressure contacts between the condenser terminal and the platinum points are clean and screwed up tight, and that the earthing connection is in good electrical contact with the distributor case. Also see that the cam is greased. (1) The contact breaker shall be connected up to an ammeter, a twelve volt battery, and a non-inductive resistance of zero temperature coefficient, all in series, the last named being of such a value as to permit the passage of exactly one ampere when the points are in contact. The distributor shall then be driven at a speed of about 700 r.p.m. The correct platinum point setting will then be such as to permit the passage of a current of .55 ampere during rotation.
