Proposing a simple rig for testing clutch springs on 4¼ Litre Bentley & 25/30 models.

When fitting Thermoid faced plates to customer's cars to cure complaints of jaggers, it is essential to insure that the thrust springs are up to specified poundage, which we know eliminates any risk of slip in the hands of a bad driver. It has been found that some of the springs on existing clutches are below this figure, and it is therefore vital that we have a means of ascertaining whether or not the springs in an assembly are up to standard, without the cost of dismantling, testing each spring, re-assembling, balancing and resetting the fingers. I submit herewith a scheme for a simple rig, which would be easy and quick to operate, and would give dependable readings. The holding down clamps are so arranged that either a 10" or 11" assembly can be fitted instantly without the use of any loose parts. We suggest that one for Derby and one for N.
