X312 LE Smith Let me know when these are actually on test Rmg S.St. HOY. C.Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} C.Th. O.{Mr Oldham} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} PHANTOM III - CLUTCH. In order to prevent misunderstanding my memo EY.3/G.20.8.36. and E's memo E.Z/HP.20.8.36. require correcting as follows :- (1). I have ascertained from the Works that they cannot put on the new clutch plate at chassis 101, as this engine and clutch is already built, and obviously the new plates are not ready. (2). The plates which are required are G.84808 which includes the increased rivetting demanded by the Experimental Department over that shown on G.82601. It also includes certain other slight modifications. The friction material drawing is G.84809, a blueprint of which will be handed to the Order Office today, and it should be noted that the holes are to be moulded in. It is most important that the improved clutch should be brought in at the earliest possible chassis. This, of course, is dependent upon the time in which the parts can be obtained, but the greatest possible pressure should be brought to bear upon the Suppliers to enable us to make the parts available, as the improvement in the clutch is such as to make a considerable difference to the performance of the car in the hands of customers.
