Switch box dismantled and found O.K.; ignition switch contact pressure increased slightly for both ignitions.

Slack in hand throttle control reduced a little.

Engine run light after resetting tappet clearance and plungers bled again.

Car taken out on road test. Within a mile one cylinder cut out dead and the next mile a very noisy tappet came up.

Tappet covers taken off and plungers found sticking on B-5. The first failure was undoubtedly a valve sticking off its seating but difficult to locate.

This was demonstrated to Mr. Messervy at Cricklewood.

The car was then left for Cricklewood to dismantle cylinder heads and valve fittings and correct where necessary for clearance.

This car had the rocker shafts modified but was not fitted with drain pipes on the cylinder heads

Summary of faults found.

(1) Drain balls solid with carbon.

(2) Valve sticking and not seating firmly.

(3) Rocker plungers sticking.

It is suggested that fault No.1 may be cured by removing the ball from its present position under the hot spot and locating same away from the heat.
