Differential Housing Failures - Phantom III.

Referring to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}21/KW.13.6.36, we should like to know whether the lightening and lubricating holes in the R.H.half of the differential casing are necessary.

There are lubricating holes in the other half of the casing which may provide all the oil required.

We suggest that an axle casing should be run on the rig with the interior of the differential casing dry, and no holes in the R.H. half, but the axle case itself filled to the normal level. If oil found its way into the differential during the run, it would indicate that the holes in the right-hand half are not needed.
