Your BY/CGH{W Clough}7/G18730., has been passed to us by E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}, and we send herewith N. sch. 3137. shewing how we suggest the controls should be arranged with a single universal joint so that it does not interfere with the operation of the valves due to the varying angles of the instrument boards.

We notice that on Sch. 1320. pumping between the instrument board and the dashboard is ignored, but we do not think that this can be. We suggest however that the effect of pumping in the horizontal spindle through the dashboard would be so small on the controls that it could not affect the operation of the valves.

It will be necessary to see that there is clearance between the joint and lever on the spindle and their bracket on each car, but there appears to be no difficulty about this.
