VALVE BOUNCE. The relation between theoretical and actual bouncing speeds is not consistent between one engine and another, nor between one camshaft and another in the same engine. In the case of most camshafts, the valve springs appear to surge over exceedingly wide speed ranges, indicating that the valve motion has an elaborate harmonic structure. Actual data respecting valve bounce speeds is very scrappy and of varying reliability. The following experimental figures have been obtained from various sources. Until we have stroboscopic records of all quoted valve bounce speeds we cannot regard the information as really accurate. | ||
