To Hdy.{William Hardy} From Ha/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Ha/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}6/MJ.14.12.32. 44027 SILENT SECOND GEAR. We send you herewith a drawing of the latest arrangement of the silent second gear for the Peregrine chassis. The schemes for P.ll and 20/25 are exactly similar. We originally had trouble with the thrust of the constant mesh sideshaft gear moving the central ball race and taking up the side clearance of the second speed loose pinion. The split collar in the ball race overcomes this. We have also experienced second gear working out of mesh under load and are trying backed off dogs to prevent this happening. The length and position of the splines is dictated by the first gear to stop this working out under load. Ha/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Attached: Ex.9579. | ||
