Re Lanchester.

Driving and riding on the Lanchester with Mr Platford on the 12th inst. confirms my notes on this chassis.
What interests us most is the worm axle and the epicyclic charge speed gear.

1. The worm wheel shows very decided signs of having galled and has deposited much bronze dust in the lubricating oil during the run of 1000 miles from Derby here. Mr Platford says he has taken every care to see that it was not short of lubricant.
2. The epicyclic change gear is silent to change and remarkably silent when running on the second speed. This is the very good point about this chassis and is the most important feature to study and worth serious consideration.
