Buick - Flexibility of Transmission.

We have made a direct measurement of the torsional flexibility of the Buick transmission system. The system includes the rear axles, propellor shaft, gearbox and clutch spring centre.

We find that for a torque of 1000 lbs.ft., applied to one of the rear hubs, the total wind-up is 24° measured at the wheel. This is with the car in 2nd gear.

By calculation the rear axle of the SpectreCodename for Phantom III winds up 7° under the same torque. This is by far the most flexible item in the transmission.
