To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}

c. By/RD.

Bentley Dynamos.

Confirming our discussion of this morning, it is agreed that By/RD. will get back from Kingsbury one of the four dynamos mentioned in Sft{Mr Swift}/EJB.1/MH.{M. Huckerby}14.2.35 as having passed the production test satisfactorily for sparking, and pass this machine to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. for test and observation.

Further, By/RD. will instruct modifications to the armature for the large size Bentley ventilated dynamo to have one gauge finer armature winding which will leave more iron available in the armature, and larger air gap with chamfered poles.

It is hoped that this will improve the machine as regards sparking and output at high speeds without loss of cutting-in speed.

The policy outlined above is with a view to obtaining a better machine of the large size at present driven at engine speed, and does not interfere with later developments in connection with the smaller ventilated dynamo driven at one and a quarter times engine speed.

In connection with the failures which have been experienced of vibrator control for which the reason has been assigned as low field resistance on the dynamo, By/RD will get observations taken on production dynamos to see what variation is likely to be encountered, as since we are apparently on the low side this variation is likely to be important.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
