Your Ref: HLV/FEW/J.{Mr Johnson W.M.}

Thank you for your letter of July 29th, and list of instruments.

Herewith further details of our requirements.

We wish to measure as accurately as possible the mileage of short test runs on the road, during petrol consumption tests.

A Zenith mileage tester will be carried, which measures the petrol consumed by carrying 1/10th Imp. gallon.

This instrument is switched in when required (on a suitable stretch of road). And we require from you an instrument which will come in at the same time to measure the distance covered while using 1/10th of a gallon.

This distance will vary between 1 and 3 miles. It might therefore be practicable to use a recording instrument measuring the distance covered in yards.

Our reference to the model 44 magneto and your D.C. Voltmeter (Model 1) is due to the fact that Vauxhall Motors of Luton are using an ordinary cycle wheel clamped to the running board of a car, in conjunction with these two instruments mentioned.

We would be glad if you could suggest, therefore, a suitable instrument for the purpose mentioned.
