1260. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/MH.{M. Huckerby}7.3.40. Herewith a summary of the cost of the alloy steel in a Merlin engine with some indication as to the method used in arriving at the figure. Assuming that the steel is shipped in ingots 3" square and upwards, the amount to be expended per thousand Merlins is £23,250. It might be convenient, however, to buy some of the steel in small bar form, in which case the total cost of the steel as a maximum would be raised to £30,000. Therefore, to be safe we suggest that you ask for the latter figure. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
