BROOKLANDS RELIABLE TESTS.
SPECIAL ENGINE.

We carried out a further series of tests on Brooklands. Before starting these tests we endeavoured to confirm some of our previous results on the test bed, particularly the failure of the autovac to keep pace with the fuel requirements of the engine. The same method of testing was employed as in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Ba.1/MJ.25.6.30.

FUEL SUPPLY.

The fuel system was rigged up on the test bed exactly as on the car. It was found that at 2500 engine R.P.M. and above, the autovac delivery fails to keep pace with the engine requirements. The delivery of the autovac is not very much behind the engine requirements on the test bed, but owing to the stand-pipe in the autovac cutting off the last 4 1/2 pints for the emergency supply, there is not much fuel in circulation to carry the system over these periods. It is clear, however, that our track conditions are worse for fuel supply than those on the test bed, presumably because the whole system reaches such a high temperature.

On our latest BROOKLANDS tests we measured the temperature of the air intake to the carburetter. With an atmospheric temperature of 24°C, the air intake reached 50°C. at 75 M.P.H.
