X.4214 To HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Dal/M25.6.24. HISPANO FRONT AXLE. X.4214. Mr. Royce would be interested to learn how the front axle of the Hispano stands up. Is the ball bearing punished at all, and are there many signs of wear on the lower plain bearing? Also is the protection against water etc. adequate, and does the thrust bearing at the bottom retain its lubricant well? From the sektch you sent us it appears as though this pivot were assembled by a threading process, that is, passing the top bearing housing over the projecting end of the front axle, dropping the whole pivot down until it touches the front axle at the top, and then lifting the pivot up along the centre line of the pivot, the pivot pin having previously been put into the axle.
