F.O. Hickling Esq.,
The Ransome & Marles Bearing Co.Ltd.,
Newark-on-Trent.

Dear Hickling,

We have now had a total of 5 failures of steel cages, and our people have decided that the oil grooves that used to be in the Hoffmann bearing cannot do any harm and might possibly do some good.

Can you therefore arrange for these grooves to be fitted to the 2 special bearings you are sending me, and also to half a dozen of the bearings with the ordinary cage, so that we can fit these in customers' cars and find out whether failures of the cages occur.

I hope you can let me have the 2 special bearings during the course of the next week, as our next car for France will be leaving in about 10 days' time.

Yours sincerely,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
