SECRET. Sports Model. BJ11/E.6-10-27. To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from BJ. copy to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} copy to C. Thank you for Worl/T5-10-27, which I discussed with R.{Sir Henry Royce} this morning, together with R1/M5-10-27, of which you have a copy. In discussing the absolutely necessary changes mentioned by R.{Sir Henry Royce}, he gave me to understand that none of these really are likely to take much time as nearly all of them had already been done. In regard to highly desirable items, it would be helpful if we knew what length of delay would be necessary to incorporate these, but I rather expect that they cannot be incorporated on account of time. The desirable and not so very necessary items need only be included if this can be done without delay whilst the other items are being prepared. I expect you, BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} will want a day or two to consider these suggestions before you can send me a useful report showing: (a) What is the position of each item and whether you have obtained the drawings from WW. (b) What delay is likely to be incurred by introducing each item. (c) Whether it is likely to prove expensive to introduce it. My chief object is to get a chassis prepared to start off for 10,000 miles at the earliest possible moment and that that chassis shall be one which R.{Sir Henry Royce} agrees is suitable to issue to the public, subject to the 10,000 miles being satisfactory. If it will not be very expensive and would expedite matters, I agree that two extra chassis might be made, one for R.{Sir Henry Royce} and one for Derby. We must obviously avoid sending a car out for 10,000 miles on the supposition that R.{Sir Henry Royce} and Derby will in the meantime want to make further alterations to it before it is delivered to the public. | ||
