Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} Rn.{Mr Robinson} COPY. Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre. 25.4.29. STEERING. Tests with 2 1/4° and 3 1/4° lean of pivots - we do not find any appreciable difference between 3 1/4° and 2 1/4° lean of pivots. It would be hard to say that either lean of pivots gives definite results. Joggles are approx. the same generally. If anything the 3 1/4° is better at lower speeds, 10 to 30 m.p.h. We have received your letter of the 23rd. you will have observed that in our report we gave you results of our tests with damper loadings. To classify them as far as we have done is as follows : 100% riding and steadiness of car. Rear dampers 100 lbs. L and 100 lbs. H.P. no restrictions. Front dampers 65 lbs. L and 65 lbs. H.P. with restrictions. 85% riding and steadiness of car. Rear dampers 75 lbs. L and 75 lbs. H.P. no restrictions. Front dampers 65 lbs. L and 65 lbs. H.P. with restrictions. 50% riding and steadiness of car. Rear dampers 80 lbs. L and 80 lbs. H.P. with restrictions. 50% riding and steadiness of car. Rear dampers 50 lbs. L and 100 lbs. H.P. no restrictions. Further tests with front dampers to be carried out for steering tests. The buffer clearances with the 100% settings are with four passengers in the rear: Rear O.S. 3.250" N.S. 3.500" Front O.S. 1.00" ++ N.S. 1.00" No passengers Rear O.S. 4.625" N.S. 4.500" Front O.S. 1.00" ++ N.S. 1.00" We have tried the side steering tube taken off 15-EX (N.sch.2258). The results are, shocks are 20% more severe more rapid, joggles more pronounced at medium speeds, and at 60/64 m.p.h. also at higher speeds 70/75 m.p.h. there are joggles which we did not have with its own side steering tube. The set up of the springs was .250" front and rear. ++ Small front buffer clearance due to buffers being packed up to prevent cross steering tube hitting dampers. G.W.H. | ||
