DI/NS.{Norman Scott} (3) C. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 805 DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/G .12.4.38. STEADMAN BONNET SIDE PLATE AND FIXING - B.50. hwi RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}(SM) PD.147 shows the side plate and method of securing it for the Rover type bonnet for B.50. The steeper slope of the forward edge of the side plate compared with the slope at the rear renders it impossible to slide the bonnet downwards into position, so the method of fixing adopted is to hook the top over two supports, engaging the front support first, then the back, the lower part of the bonnet side being held out during this part of the procedure. When the two supports are firmly engaged the lower edge of the bonnet side is swung in and the two catches engaged in the same manner as for a conventional bonnet. The reason for engaging the front support first is to miss the headlamp supporting tube. The cut away for this tube in the side plate may require enlarging from that shown if it is too difficult to remove and replace the side. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
