X. 634 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Rg.{Mr Rowledge} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to BJ. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Mr. Claremont. R1/M16.4.27. CRANKSHAFT DAMPER - LANCHESTER PATENT. I notice that in 1911 we were sending out chassis with spring drive damped, (at the nose end of the crankshaft) i.e. opposite end to flywheel, which included the belt pulley for the fan. This was in effect exactly like G.l., having some friction and inertia, but was found later to be insufficient, and a separate additional friction flywheel was fitted. It is just possible that Lanchester tried to get a patent that would cover G.l. but had to narrow his claims to his special fluid device, or whatever has claims cover. But we ought to be very certain, as it looks as though this G.l. device is what we shall be fitting to our engine. R.{Sir Henry Royce} X. 634 | ||
