PRIVATE & VERY URGENT. WE, from Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} MrS. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hsy/WEC. HW. Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} APW. HP. HDH. Worl/R.24.8.35. SPECTRECodename for Phantom III CHASSIS. Please proceed at once with the ordering of the material and the making of 20 spectreCodename for Phantom III chassis. We must not wait for 10,000 miles test. We must not wait for all the jigs and tools to be made, but make the chassis with the jigs and tools that we have. These chassis should be made with the combined effort of the Works and the Experimental Department, so that the Experimental Department pass information on to the Works to help with this programme in order that the Works may be in a position to see their difficulties early. It is realised that some parts will be made and then scrapped. Such a course is unavoidable since we must proceed before tests are finished, and, therefore, this risk needs to be taken. 8 of these 20 chassis are to be shown at Olympia. It is essential, therefore, that they are finished as early as possible, because Coachbuilders will need to finish them ready for the Show. If we cannot absolutely finish these 8 chassis in time for the Show we must complete them up to the stage where they will look like finished cars, because they will not need to be run. Experimental Department will supply two cars - Nos. 5 & 6 (independent of this programme of 8 chassis) to be used for demonstration purposes. The remaining 12 chassis (making a total of 20), will be required not later than the 2nd week of January 1936. These 12 are the start of the 3 per week programme which Sft.{Mr Swift} has already promised, which programme of production will start by the time mentioned, viz., middle January 1936.
