Re - Crankshaft Balance Weights.
I think we ought to make another a long duration test with an engine in which these have been removed. It would be better if the test were carried out at the maximum power and speed of at least 2000 revs.
At present I understand that we should be just as well off with these removed as we have since come to the conclusion that the wear on the crankshaft was not due to excessive pressure but due to the grit which was unavoidably in the early life of each engine, and under the conditions of running until the scheme of cleaning the oil is perfected.
