X8300 Dit. NBL. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY6/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 20.3.25. --------------- Would you kindly arrange to correct half a dozen clutches on "V" Series cars delivered to MX{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}, to the latest Part List? I have Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}'s authority for instructing the six to be done at once, the object being that the Test Dept. may obtain experimental knowledge of the clutch as HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} is using it. The main points are:- 1. The single disc is now flat, having no"set" on the disc itself where the saw cuts occur. 2. The first engagement springs pressing against spherical ended steel pressings instead of flat ended pressings. 3. Paper joints between all three joints through which the bolt fastening the friction disc to the universal joint passes, the object of these paper joints being to prevent oil escaping from the ball bearings inside the joint case, and working its way upward on to the working faces of the clutch. 4. In a "B" type clutch a split ring .100 thick will have to be inserted between the collar on the engine coupling shaft and the clutch brake flange. At the same time the clutch casing will have to be turned back the same amount to permit the necessary increased clearance called for by the clutch on the "B" type chassis. BY.{R.W.
