Y3603 ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. OY2.R. February 1st, 1929. Mr. Robotham, Rolls Royce Ltd., Derby, England. c - Mr. Bailey (England) Dear Mr. Robotham: Re CENTRAL LUBRICATION - SECTION 7141 Thanks for your note of January 16th re central lubrication. I hope the system will be applied down the front spring to the front axle. Anything "left off" the system tends to be neglected because the system itself is so convenient that everything else seems inconvenient by comparison. We regret now that we have not yet included the sphere and torque tube, but still lubricate these from the "pot" in the bonnet. We hope shortly to extend the Bijur system to these two parts using the form of oil-collector ring shown in N.Sch. 2442 (r.h. side) Answering first your direct questions - (1) Attached is A-13522 latest list of drip plugs. (2) We call for operation of the pump every morning in starting the car, and every 50 miles thereafter. The operation every morning is enough, and becomes instinctive in no time. We think it is the more important instruction. In wet or icy weather an extra pull is recommended. (3) If the job is forgotten of course things run dry. Mr. Soutter tells me that there have been cases in service where they have suspected this, but it has not been possible to prove it. Emphasizing the "morning operation" helps to regularize it. --continued-- | ||
