X 5000 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} EY. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}a/MJ.28.8.30. Re. Oil Leak from No.7 Bearing. 25 HP. ---------- We have been carrying out tests on a production chassis with this complaint. The following methods have been tried :- (1) & (2).- Equalisation of pressure in crankcase and clutch case, by fitting a pipe between the filler pipe on crankcase and cover of clutch case with a tap to turn on or off. The two bottom drain holes being stopped up. (3). - Making the clutch and flywheel act as a pump to create a higher air pressure in the clutch case, the drain holes still being stopped up. The results of the tests are as follows the mileage and speed being kept the same - No. (1) The tap turned off. - About a quarter of a teaspoonful of oil collected. The following slight oil leaks were noticed on the gear box :- A.{Mr Adams} End of three selector shafts. B. Speedometer gear-box plate. C. Off-side plate cover. D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} Reverse gear shaft rear cover. No. (2) Pressures equalised with tap turned on. - Approx. one teaspoonful of oil was collected. The oil leaks from the gear-box A.B.C.D. were considerably worse. No. (3) An apperture approx. 1.00" dia. was drilled in the right hand side of the gearbox cover. - About one-eighth of a teaspoonful of oil was collected. The oil leaks from the gear-box A.B.C.D. were 50% less than No.(2) test. No. (4) Test same as No.3 but with a breather pipe fitted to gear-box - The same amount of oil was collected. The leaks from the gear-box were slightly less 10%. | ||
