To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from EFC. X 3362 RE LIGHTING INSTALLATION AT WEST WITTERINGHenry Royce's home town I have your notes and drawing in connection with the above, and have been very interested in this scheme. I suggest that since this will be a comparatively low voltage installation, and that, therefore, the lights for any reasonable candle power will take heavy current, that we should not fall into the error of putting in conductors of too small a section, and thus having the annoyance of one light dropping in intensity appreciably when another one is switched on. For this purpose I suggest for the main conductors, the use of a cable of at least size 7/20, but preferably 7/18. Two of these could be run side by side and might be supported on porcelain insulators of the type indicated in sketch, but insulators made of the correct kind of wood would be quite good enough in case we could not procure these. Where the conductors pass through the wall, all that is necessary would be hole of sufficient size. A double pole main fuse is unnecessary in such a low voltage system, a single main fuse will be quite sufficient. I think it is still quite easy to get neat little fuse boxes, and will try and obtain four of these for your purpose. The branch conductors would be suitably composed of heavy flex and supported by means of insulators | ||
