X.4421 - R.R. GOSHAWK ELECTRICAL CUTOUT ON DISTRIBUTION BOARD.

Though we have not previously reported on the operation of these instruments, a number of tests were made some weeks ago and from which we judge that this instrument was certainly allround the most satisfactory electrical cutout with which we have had experience. We found there was combined in this instrument the definiteness of operation of the Bleriot cutout and the silence of operation of other cutouts. The cutout has behaved consistently well on our bench test. Also it would now appear equally well on the various chassis.

We did, however, in the first instance find that the shunt winding was a little likely to overheat, and to overcome this we had the number of turns of this winding increased to the maximum which can be conveniently got in without altering the gauge - this reduced the heating to within quite a reasonable limit.

We think the feature of the rubbing contact points very good and a necessary feature in any satisfactory cutout.
