| From Exp. Dept. Copies for: J. {Mr Johnson W.M.} R. {Sir Henry Royce} E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Na. {Mr Nadin} Wor {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} /EH1/C6314. March 6th. 1914. Re Connecting Rods, S 824 Both on 2704 and 58 NA {Mr Nadin} engine the pistons were not eased at the sides. We have run the engine with the novel steel pistons for 8 hours at 2250 revs. and 30 mins at 2500 revs. there are no signs of any cracks in the rods, we are now increasing the compression. These rods that are running with the novel steel piston were forged at the works here, they are not from drop forgings, in the machining it was thought that the drop forgings were tougher and harder. We had to stop the test because the electric dynamometer was sparking badly, the plates in the commutator have moved we shall have to have it trued up. Handwritten on left margin: X 706 | ||
