Experimental Department July 14th 1937 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}11/AP. F.C.Mock Esq., Bendix Products Corporation, South Bend, INDIANA, U.S.A. Dear Mr.Mock, We are in trouble with the brake linings we fit to our cars. There seems to be a superfluity of resin bonding in them which after 8,000 miles service glazes and leads to brake squeaks. The linings we use at present are all woven. I think that you people in America know more about bondings, especially in moulded linings, than the English manu-facturers know. We should very much like to hear if you have encountered this glazing trouble, and we should like to try some of your latest american made brake linings. The English Bendix Co. use English brake linings; is it possible for them to obtain American made ones? Can your latest moulded linings be made 5/16" thick for a 12" dia. drum.? We notice most american linings are only 3/16" thick, which is the maximum possible if a mill-board base is used. I should be very grateful if you could give us any information about the cause or cure of brake squeaks. Yours sincerely, | ||
