DI. GRY{Shadwell Grylls} K1264 602 C. E; Dar; Hsy; N; Hp; Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}; Fm. E/HDY.{William Hardy}2/HP.29.6.36. Wraith II Rear Axle. Pinion and Crown Wheel Housing. We send herewith N.Sch.4827 and 4828 which show the above. Particulars of the hypoid gears have already been sent by N.Sch.4831 and E/HDY.{William Hardy}1/HP.20.6.36. The housing is a casting in R.R.50. The same metal is suggested for the pinion bearing housing. A Gits seal is provided for the pinion as owing to the large amount of hypoid the oil will rise above the level of the seal when on a quite moderate downward gradient. The differential casing is on the lines of the recently modified Phantom III casing. Mild steel should be used for the half to which the crown wheel is attached and nickel steel for the other half. Adjustment for the crown wheel is made by varying the thickness of two packing washers. These washers are identical except for thickness variations and to prevent them from being subsequently interchanged it is suggested that the one adjacent to the bolted on end ring should be riveted to this ring. A level dip stick is combined with the filler plug. There must, therefore, always be an opening in the coachwork immediately over this plug. E/HDY.{William Hardy} N.Sch's 4827/8 attached. | ||
