EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}17/JH. 30th. December, 1938. Delco Remy & Hyatt Ltd., 111, Grosvenor Road, LONDON. S.W.1. For the attention of Mr. B. Rushton. Dear Sirs, Thanks for yours of the 24th. ul't. We have received a letter from your supply department ref. GAK/JB/22.12.38. in which you give a summary of the cam and shaft assemblies sent from your Works to ours for Brinell testing. We agree with your figures excepting that you have omitted to record the return of 51 cams, which were despatched to you on the 22.11.38. These together with one which we have scrapped on account of a flaw in the material, will explain the 52 outstanding cams. We are returning one faulty cam under separate cover. We agree that we have six shaft assemblies. These have been supplied by you as replacements for those turned down on production on account of cam softness. We will return those taken off the engines as soon as we receive them from the production dept. We note that of one batch of 125 cams, returned by us on the 5.12.38. 56 were damaged, due we assume to small dents caused by the cams being knocked. This batch was turned down on account of the cams being too soft, and in order to help you keep to your production programme we hardened them for you at these Works. This of course being quite voluntary, and in accordance with your wishes. The damage may have been done in the course of transit between your Works and ours, or vice versa, or during the hardening process. These cams were packed in brown paper bags, 15 to a bag, when delivered by yourselves and naturally we treated them in the same manner. Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
