Oil Consumption.

We have carried out tests with the 'L' shaped ring on the Ph.III, and we find that we can improve the oil consumption by 40% by treating the centre ring as we have done the 20/25. This will be fitted to 35-EX. Having had no complaints of the Ph.III oil consumption we hesitate to put these rings on to production without a 15,000 miles test. The 'L' section ring has the advantage that it allows thin oil to be used, which eases starting difficulties.

Radiator Frontal Appearance.

The tests should be completed before the Conference next week, to indicate whether the wire mesh can be used without materially interfering with the cooling capacity of the radiator.

4-Port Cylinder Heads.

These should be on test in a fortnight's time.

Erratic Carburation.

We have had one or two isolated cases where the accelerator pump leathers in the carburetter have given trouble. The matter is being investigated.

Petrol Vapour Lock.

We have got a pump which will work satisfactorily in the frame. This will be fitted to 35-EX. Though we agree that this scheme is not ideal because the pumps are not accessible, we think that as long as the fuses for the petrol pump are accessible it is preferable to have the pumps in this position than on the dashboard, where they are likely to become noisy and suffer from vapour lock. In the meantime investigations are being made to see if they can be fitted on the scuttle.

Continental Phantom III.

The speed at which this is proceeding is limited by the capacity of the experimental shop.
