TELEPHONES: PAISLEY 4141/5. INDIA TYRE & RUBBER COMPANY, LTD. TELEGRAMS: INDIATYRE, RENFREW. INCHINNAN SCOTLAND OUR REF. PW/IK. YOUR REF. 27th May, 1936. W.A. Robotham, Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd., DERBY. Dear Mr. Robotham, Thanks for your letter of 20th May. I have delayed replying as I wanted to get some figures from our Experimental Department. We note from your letter to Lord Rothes that the 6.00/17 appear to be an improvement in all respects except that there are deficiencies in the cornering properties and that you would like to fit a wider rim. The 4.00 rim would probably be an improvement and we would suggest that by a further change in the construction of the tyre, we could also improve the stability of the tyre on corners. In doing this, the cushioning effect of the tyre might be reduced to a slight extent but it would be very small and hardly measurable and, in view of the increased cushion obtained in fitting the 6.00 section against the 5.50 section on the Bentley, I should think that it would be negligible. The 6.00 tyre on the 4.5 rim is distorted to such an extent that we would not recommend it. If you agree that it is worth trying out the 4.00 rim, we would suggest that you return the wheels which we sent you to Bramber Engineering Company and we will instruct them to rebuild the/ - Continued - | ||
