HDY{William Hardy}
Dear Sirs,
For the attention of Mr. F.{Mr Friese} J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Hardy.
We are in receipt of your letter of the 6th instant, reference as above, and note with pleasure that you wish to have another 1.7/16" double tooth gear for a Bentley, similar to the one we previously supplied, but with two modifications, namely,
1, The helix angle increased in the ratio of 9 : 8 in order to use an 8.000" pendulum lever instead of the 9.000" one you are at present using.
2, The rockershaft to be increased in diameter from 1.000" to about 1.187" with a correspondingly larger splined end.
These modifications will not delay the job unduly and we think that they are well worth carrying out in the next gear to suit the requirements.
Whereas an exactly similar gear would require a delivery of 4 to 5 weeks, we think the revised steering, with the above modifications, could be completed in 5 to 6 weeks, and we have already put this steering in hand in view of your requiring it as soon as possible.
We note that the gear previously supplied has now done about 5,000 miles on the road and that you are pleased
