Dear Sir,
In answer to your letter of the 1st inst. we regret to note you are experiencing trouble with the overhead valve gear on your STUTZ car. We are more than surprised at this, as up to the moment, we have not experienced this trouble ourselves, and this in spite of the fact that we have now some 100 Engines running on the road.
We may here say that we have at times experienced trouble with alterations occuring in valve clearances through sticking valve stems. By this we mean that the cam has been set when the valve has been stuck slightly open.
The only other reason for trouble that we can possibly think of is that of stripped threads on the valves. Another reason for the caps becoming unlocked would be that of cracked caps in the vicinity of the female threads.
We have found, in fact we have used on our high-speed cars, extra long tommy bars for the purpose of making definitely sure we have locked up the caps.
We look forward with interest to your further remarks regarding this trouble and sincerely hope that some of our suggestions will prove of such a nature that will remedy your trouble.
Yours faithfully,
p.p. WARWICK WRIGHT LTD.
