loads will occur. We find that to ensure a free and smooth action of the drive it is necessary that the brass plunger D.51580 is free in the housing of D.51577 otherwise a grabbing action takes places.

During the tests the loose clutch plate D.51585 dug into the splines of the operating bush and to overcome this we made the plate with more bearing surface in the splines at the same time spigotting the cork washers on either side. This has operated satisfactorily during the remainder of the tests and shews no sign of digging in.

We also had trouble with the operating bush picking up where it is located in the clutch spring housing, this acting as a bearing. This has been given more clearance and the parts were coated with Cadmium.

The results so far are satisfactory, the parts previously affected now max being in a polished state.

We have fitted the starter motor to 11-G-111 and are testing two more. The results so far are entirely satisfactory and the unit is the most satisfactory design, dealing with all the faults that we are aware of.

We propose to standardise it as soon as possible.
