-2- We have previously mentioned that we get appreciable variation in oil consumption on our standard engines and have suggested that this may arise through liner distortion. Consequently it has been thought advisable to make a further test for oil consumption using standard cylinder liners with the pistons having scraper rings at the top of the skirt as in the last test. Such a test should indicate the possible effect of cylinder distortion on oil consumption. Summary. Oil consumption with the scraper rings at the top of the piston skirt is quite good and no overoiling was observed during light running. The tests were made in conjunction with modified cylinder liner schemes. The test is to be repeated with standard liners as requested in Rg{Mr Rowledge}/Tsn/ME15.12.30.
