RE. SPRING SHACKLES. XZ628 / X4261 We are still not quite sure whether the Exp. Dept. have any definite recommendations to make as regards these shackles. We understand that in view of the experience on the steering pivots and other parts the number of small grooves at one time tried is not now favoured. We are contemplating using bushes tight in the spring and in the shackle with deep flanges. This would avoid the wear of the unhardened shackle and only slightly hardened spring which one supposes occurs with a floating bush, but since the hardened steel washers would still be required it absorbs a certain amount of room which we cannot easily spare, especially on the shackle at the rear end of the front spring. Of course we ultimately intend to close the shackles in as far as possible but this proposal is a little way off yet we think.
