26.G.VI - BAKELITE FILLER CAP.

We have received your note of 23/2/38, for which we thank you, and have returned the washer in question to the makers for report on same. In view of this trouble with the washer (Avon manufacture) we shall very probably use the first type of washer sent you (British Goodrich) which we understand is functioning satisfactorily. We shall be glad to hear further from you if any further trouble is experienced.

With regard to the question of water level - we note that the hot level of the water is visible in filler, but that the cold level is below base of filler spout.

At the moment we cannot see any simple way of avoiding this. We would like to know, however, how far the car has to be run before the constant level mentioned above is reached if the tank is filled (at commencement of running) as full as filler will permit it, i.e. up to the outer edge of the casting.

We may shortly send you a simple steam valve to fit on the steam escape flange in order to endeavour to raise this hot level.
