Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 17th instant, from which we are pleased to note that it is possible to fit the L7 size column to your 25-HP chassis. We have examined your print Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1515 enclosed, and the arrangement appears satisfactory, and you have overcome the difficulty of the proximity of the steering box to the carburettor. We will carry out your suggestion of removing the oil filler plug and its boss, and fit the improvised oil filler as shewn on your print. With regard to the method by which you propose to hold the steering box to the frame, our only comment is that it would be a distinct advantage, although not a necessity, if the clamping housing were extended along the steering box nose as far as the steering box itself to give additional support, and it would be still more preferable to have an angle bracket, one side of which would run down and be bolted to the side of the frame stiffener. In order to avoid any tendency to pinch the rockershaft bearing when the clamping bracket is tightened up, it is necessary to bore the hole to the Newall B limit, and to ensure that the bore - 1 - | ||
