Referring to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}9/G.23.8.37. the remarks therein re the reduction of No. of bolts between the crankcase and the clutch casing also apply to the new economical gearbox now being detailed, that is to say, this box will be used on Wraith, and as it involves a clutch casing with the reduced number of bolts, the crankcase should be altered to suit. As we understand no dies have been sunk for the Wraith clutch casing, these extra bolts should also be removed from that part, so saving the bolts and getting the crankcase ready for the common clutch casing when it arrives. Any crankcases already made for Bentley 111 do not have these bosses drilled. Also any Wraith crankcases or clutch casings made can be used by retaining the bolts, but the patterns should be altered for future castings. P.S. Since writing the above, we have heard that Wraith jigs are finished and in use. In these circumstances, it is probably desirable to let Wraith go through unaltered for the first 500 sets, which will have the existing gearbox. The crankcase pattern could be modified as soon as the change to the new gearbox becomes imminent. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
