Pistons "steel" were not as light as I expected 3.81 lbs. Marine Engine pistons now fitted Hives reports as 3.81 lbs.
Our 4 1/2" piston is 4.94 lbs, ie weights with rings and gudgeon pins ( L 8 rings).
5 Piston rings, concentric, knurled.
Gudgeon pins solid hardened steel (.625 lbs) with bronze bush, no signs of wear.
Propellor shaft universal joints both very good. The telescopic joint driving blocks are made of bronze.
Clutch plates very good, slightly scored only, there are 20 pairs of plates.
Foot brake plates are more scored but not badly, oil has got charged badly on these plates.
On arrival at the Works from France the car felt generally very "rattly" engine was loose in the frame, and such mechanism which is connected to both frame and engine such as pedals etc rattled very badly.
Contd.
