For the attention of Mr. Hives. Dear Sirs, Several points of interest were raised on the occasion of the visit of our technical representative, Mr. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Russell Sharp, on the 31st ultimo. One matter discussed was the suitability of Mobiloil "EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}" for engine lubrication. Mobiloil "EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}" will be quite unsuitable for such a purpose, as it is prepared specially for gear lubrication where the conditions of use are very different. For the lubrication of reduction gears on aircraft engines, however, Mobiloil "EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}" should be a very satisfactory product, but it would of course be necessary to arrange for the lubrication of these gears to be entirely separate from the system employed in the engine, whilst it would probably be necessary to arrange for some suitable oil cooling device on account of the temperature rise which would be expected due to the high power transmitted through these gears. With regard to any action which may take place between the ingredients of Mobiloil "EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}" and the metal employed in the construction of the gears and their housings, we should certainly not expect that this would occur in any of these, but if you are considering any further investigations into the matter, we think it might be desirable for you to let us have a small test piece of the alloy used for the gear housing so that we may make suitable tests in our laboratory. We do not anticipate any difficulty whatever in this direction. (Cont'd) | ||
