3½ litre Bentley.

The development of the Bentley power unit is held up until the Experimental Department are in a position to give us some results from the single cylinder chassis test unit we have instructed and the new type of head.

Apart from the cylinder we have got to make up our minds as to the solution of the limitations imposed upon speed and safety by the crankshaft, and in this connection we should like an experiment made to try out the roughness effect of running with four bearings only on a six cylinder engine utilising the present shaft with the present degree of balance and leaving out bearings Nos. 2, 4, and 6.

This experiment should naturally be tried in a chassis, and would be informative both in connection with 6 and 8 in line engines.
