RE: PHANTOM PISTON SEIZURES, OVER-PRIMING.

Re EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}6/H25.5.29.

I have had a few words with O.{Mr Oldham} on EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}'s memo above mentioned, and we are very much in sympathy with something being done at once to avoid this over-priming trouble, as far as possible. R.{Sir Henry Royce} has recently written a memo also on the subject.

Pending an alteration to the design of the starter carburetter adjusting screw, giving it a finer thread or in some way extending the range of adjustment, we are in favour of circulating a leaflet on the lines you suggest, but we should like to add to it a caution or warning against the over-use of the starter carburetter. By 'over-use' - we mean the leaving of the control lever on the instrument board in the starting position, possibly for several minutes.

The issuing of a leaflet to every Phantom owner being a matter of considerable expense, and much time in addressing envelopes etc, we should like, in this case to avail ourselves of the fact that the 'Bulletin' is being despatched to all RR. owners about next Thursday at the latest. If, therefore, you can push through a suitable leaflet by Tuesday, and will let us have it at once, we can get the printing done and avail ourselves of this issue.
