1044 Ry. from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Hdy.{William Hardy} c. Dixon - Fuel Systems} RmB/R.28.3.39. The existing 8-cyl. engines have facings for the mechanical petrol pump in a position where, if fitted, the bottom casing will foul the steering column. As the under bonnet temperature on the 8-cyl. is almost bound to be higher than that on the 6-cyl., the mechanical petrol pump is going to be a more difficult propo-sition with this unit in any case. We, therefore, recommend that on all 8-cyl. cars the mechanical petrol pump should be forgotten until it is made to function satisfactorily on 6-cyl. engines.
