8 HP Morris - HPH.666

We have the following comments to make on the above car :-

ENGINE.

The engine is very smooth, better than any other small car we have tried.

Performance good.

Engine mounting is remarkably good for controlling engine movement and not interfering with the engine smoothness.

Induction roar is terrific - one would say that no attempt has been made to cure this.

Valve gear is noisy with standard tappet settings of .017. Unlike the Austin and Standard, the carburetter does not cut out on full throttle even at the lowest speeds (S.U. carb. fitted).

CLUTCH.

Smooth in action. No complaints for a small car.

GEARBOX.

Exceptionally good for noise on all gears.

We have tried two gearboxes in this car, and both are very good. We ought to be able to learn something from these gearboxes with regard to quietness.

REAR AXLE.

Like the rest of the small cars, with the possible exception of the Hillman, a very poor standard.

Bad growl 20-30 MPH forward and slight growl on the over-run over the whole range. When warm the box rattles badly from 20-30 MPH.
