To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Y300 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}13/KW.19.5.36. Engine Stiffness. Before we run the cast-iron box section crankcase on an engine, we should like to obtain a figure for the increase in stiffness of the crankcase. Will you please therefore build up the top half with a cylinder block and cylinder head only, but no other parts. We can then quickly carry out a bending test. If we could have this crankcase before the bearings are machined there would be no possibility of damaging them during the test. As we want to get comparative figures of the standard engine, will you please build up for us a standard crankcase, block and head for a similar test. If we could have this latter right away, we are in a position to carry out the tests immediately. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} | ||
