Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd.
DERBY.

Dear Sirs,

In reply to yours ref. ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/MS4/P4428, we note your remarks re the rivets coming loose in the contact fingers.

We would like to point out that the one returned with the above letter is one of the very earliest types we spun in, and that if you have any of these left with the spinning over of the solid stem rivet we should advise you not to use them. We are of opinion that the last 475 levers sent you are quite satisfactory.

You will observe that these rivets are of the recessed type. We enclose one with the spinning over filed off to show you our present method of fixing. The hole in the blade has a square imprinted into it, and then the rivet is spun into this, which, as the sample shows, fills up this square impression. This we think will eliminate any trouble of coming loose.
We should like you to test these out on your 100-hour test. Also we think it would be advisable if you went through your stock and picked out the contact fingers with the type of fixing similar to the one returned to us.

We are despatching today 56 levers D.50075 with Tungsten faced rivets D.51408 spun in which we had finished, but are now holding up further supplies until we hear from you.

We are,

Yours faithfully,

W.H.REYNOLDS & CO.
